Hip surgery at the highest level

We use modern, minimally invasive surgical techniques and high-quality implants to help patients return quickly to everyday life without pain. For younger patients, we also assess joint-preserving treatment options designed to reduce pain and maintain the hip’s natural function for as long as possible.

Hip treatments

Arthroscopy

Minimally invasive keyhole treatment.

  • Repair or removal of a painful or snapping labrum
  • Removal of loose inflamed synovial tissue and bony overgrowths
  • Cartilage cell transplantation
Joint replacement

Restoring normal joint function with hip replacement surgery.

  • Minimally invasive surgical techniques are used where appropriate for the diagnosis
  • Reduced blood loss
  • Better preservation of natural joint and muscle sensation
  • Faster recovery
  • Modern materials for secure integration and long-term durability
  • Selection of the hip replacement to suit the individual patient
  • Some of our physicians offer minimally invasive hip replacement through the direct anterior approach (DAA/AMIS technique, Hueter interval) with a bikini-line incision.
Fractures

Fracture of the femoral neck.

  • Primarily affects older people
  • Healing through screw fixation (osteosynthesis) or a fracture prosthesis
Hip replacement using the “bikini incision”

The “bikini approach” in hip replacement surgery is a good example of innovative care at Manhagen. For eight years, Chief Physician Drs Bongaerts and his team have used an anterior approach to insert hip replacements. Thousands of patients have already benefited from its particular advantages: no muscle is detached, rehabilitation can begin immediately after surgery without movement restrictions, and walking aids are needed only for a very short time.

Studies also show that this procedure has the lowest risk of dislocation. The discreet incision in the crease of the groin gives the approach its name: the scar is virtually invisible, a unique feature of the “bikini approach”. Innovation attracts attention, and Drs Bongaerts has established Manhagen as a nationwide observership centre.

Revision surgery in joint replacement

Despite the good durability of modern implants, a joint replacement may eventually need to be revised, particularly as life expectancy rises. This requires specialist knowledge and particular surgical skill. During revision surgery, the aim is to remove only the old implant wherever possible without damaging the existing bone.

The surgeon must respond to the findings encountered during the operation to secure the new implant in the best possible way. Manhagen’s surgeons have the technical skill and experience this demands.

Frequently asked questions

Can I obtain a second opinion?

Yes. Existing X-rays, MRI reports and medical letters help us assess the recommendation accurately.

When is an artificial hip joint advisable?

When pain, loss of mobility and imaging together indicate advanced osteoarthritis and conservative measures no longer provide sufficient relief.

What does quality assurance mean in hip surgery?

Outcomes, processes and implant data are evaluated systematically. Registries and case numbers help us continuously assess the quality of care.

What role does rehabilitation play?

Early mobilisation and targeted follow-up treatment support mobility, safety and a return to everyday life.

How do I prepare for surgery?

Preliminary examinations, the anaesthesia consultation, medication and support at home are clarified in advance.
